Craft Your Own Self-Fulfilling Prophecy
One of the most powerful tools you have at your disposal is the gift of future heart-felt gratitude for what you do today, tomorrow, and the days between now and next.
For the past five weeks, I have been publishing the exercises from my Live & Thrive pilot workshop here—in tandem with assigning them to my awesome guinea pigs in our private Facebook group.
This is the sixth and final homework assignment:
It's time to write your second profound letter. Take the next few days to ruminate before you sit down to write. If you try to do this at the last minute or all at once, without time to daydream, it just won't work as well. Just like the rest of this workshop and its homework, it will give back to you what you give to it, times 10. Or even 100.
It is my practice to test each new lab or workshop on a group of writers who are at different places in their writing journeys, who may or may not know each other, and who bring unique experiences to the table. They get personal attention, a locked-in low price for life, and other perks appropriate to the workshop. I get a set of guinea pigs to practice on.
I am one of those guinea pigs. I like to work through each exercise myself to make sure it’s solid, serves its purpose, and doesn’t overwhelm the user. I have to say, this workshop process is a little more intense than I had originally planned. You can blame the open, ready, and insightful hearts and minds of this particular group of people for that.
I am excited beyond measure to report that these exercises have worked for me! I had a massive block around a very important next move in my business. I have to scale up to financially to meet some new and expanded responsibilities in my life. I have known for two years that one specific next step holds the key to achieving this goal, but I have been blocked by fear and a sense of smallness and inadequacy that, in the light of day, once I’ve put it in words, have been revealed as rooted in negative beliefs that no longer apply to my view of myself.
This specific exercise changed my life in 2017. It took me dreaming about taking writers on retreat to actually taking writers on retreat within six months. The dream had been buzzing around in my head for about two years. I knew I wanted it, I just didn’t know where to start.
